This Regional Snapshot explores
ARC's recently-released employment estimates for 2008 and finds that
the 20-county area added 12,000 jobs between 2006 and 2008. ARC's 2008 employment
estimate is for the first quarter of 2008, so while this anemic job
growth for the previous two years signaled tough economic times ahead,
the employment situation worsened dramatically in the latter stages of
2008. To capture the latest employment trends, this Snapshot also looks
at the most recent employment data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics
for the largest metro economies in the nation.
Additionally, for the first time, ARC employment estimates include the
entire state of Georgia, allowing comparisons of the Atlanta region to
other areas in the state. Read this month's Regional Snapshot at www.atlantaregional.com.
