Oakhurst Announces 7th Annual Wine Crawl, February 28
 
Explore all the Oakhurst businesses while sipping wine from around the world. This event sells out fast so get your advance tickets at Steinbecks, Universal Joint and Kavarna for $20; tickets are $25 the day of the event. The event takes place from 4- 7 p.m. Please bring Photo ID to pick up glasses. If you would like to volunteer for this event please contact Sherina Clough at ona@oakhurstga.org
Proceeds benefit the Oakhurst neighborhood and business community. Parking: Park in Oakhurst Village at the intersection of East Lake Drive and Oakview Rd.

 Luminos Auction and Ball is the signature fundraising event to support the Waldorf School of Atlanta. Held each spring for the past thirteen years, the event has grown to include a silent and live auction of one-of-a-kind arts and crafts created by faculty, parents, and students-along with premium items contributed by companies and other organizations in the Atlanta area.

 

 

 

 

Save the Date!  2009 TOUR deCATUR  Scheduled for March 21

 

 

The 2009 TOUR deCATUR 5K Road Race, 1 Mile Fun Run and Tot Trot for ages 4 and under will be held on Saturday, March 21, 2009.  The race begins at Renfroe Middle School and follows a beautiful route through the Oakhurst and Winnona Park neighborhoods.  The event will begin with the 1 Mile Fun Run at 8:45 am followed by the 5K at 9:15 am and the Tot Trot at 10:00 am.   Entry fees, if paid by March 13th, are $18 for Adults and $12 for children under 18.  The race day entry fee is $25 for all participants. Registration is available on-line at www.tourdecatur.com.  All proceeds from the race benefit the work of the Decatur Education Foundation.  Sponsorships are still available and information for sponsors can also be found on the race Web site www.tourdecatur.com.  Bring all your friends and family and help us pound the pavement for Decatur kids!

   

 

 

 

 

Habitat for Humanity - DeKalb, Inc. presents a New Home Orientation Meeting on April 4

 

Habitat for Humanity - DeKalb, Inc. will hold a New Home Orientation Meeting on April 4, 2009.  People interested in owning a home built in partnership with Habitat for Humanity in DeKalb County should plan to attend this meeting.  These meetings are held only once a year.  Anyone eligible to benefit from this program should not miss this meeting. 
 
To determine if one is eligible to attend this New Home Orientation Meeting, applicants must complete the Pre-Qualification Form and return it to the Habitat for Humanity - DeKalb office.  This is a simple, easy-to-complete form.  The Pre-Qualification Form can be found at www.dekalbhabitat.org.  The form must be completed and returned to Habitat for Humanity - DeKalb by March 13, 2009.  It can be faxed to 404-534-9922, mailed to P.O. Box 1681, Decatur, GA 30030, or hand delivered to their offices in Belvedere United Methodist Church, 2915 Midway Road, Decatur, GA. 
 
If candidates are qualified, they will be notified of the time and place of the meeting.  Candidates must be present at the meeting on April 4 to receive a new home application.
 
To qualify to participate in the program, the applicant must live in DeKalb County for a minimum of twelve months prior to filing the application and must be a U.S. citizen or have permanent U.S. resident status.  For more information, please visit www.dekalbhabitat.org. 
 

 

 

Atlanta Bicycle Campaign Offers Spring City Cycling Classes

 

The Atlanta Bicycle Campaign's Confident City Cycling spring class schedule is now online and open for registration. The class offers instruction on bicycle safety, riding with confidence, and basic skills. These compact yet comprehensive classes give participants the confidence they need to ride safely and legally in traffic or on the trail, or to teach their children to do so. The classes are offered every other Saturday from March to May at different locations in DeKalb County and the City of Atlanta. The cost is very reasonable $25 or $10 for qualified commuters/residents. Please visit www.atlantabike.org to learn more and register online with the Atlanta Bicycle Campaign.
 

 

 

 

 



This Regional Snapshot explores ARC's recently-released employment estimates for 2008 and finds that the 20-county area added 12,000 jobs between 2006 and 2008. ARC's 2008 employment estimate is for the first quarter of 2008, so while this anemic job growth for the previous two years signaled tough economic times ahead, the employment situation worsened dramatically in the latter stages of 2008. To capture the latest employment trends, this Snapshot also looks at the most recent employment data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics for the largest metro economies in the nation.
Additionally, for the first time, ARC employment estimates include the entire state of Georgia, allowing comparisons of the Atlanta region to other areas in the state. Read this month's Regional Snapshot at
