Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. salutes “Lion of the Senate”
Senator Edward M. Kennedy was a friend of everyone who fought for equal rights

BALTIMORE –America and the world has lost a great humanitarian and a great leader with the death of Senator Edward M. Kennedy.

Members of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. around the world are saddened to hear about the passing of “Ted” Kennedy, the third-longest-serving member of the United States Senate, who was affectionately called the “lion of the Senate.”

“Senator Kennedy was both a man of faith and one of the greatest political leaders of our age,” said Herman “Skip” Mason Jr., general president of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. “His track record speaks for itself. Alpha Phi Alpha salutes all men and women who step up to lead in the toughest of times, where leading the charge to do what is right and just, seems to be both an inconvenience and inconsequential; Senator Kennedy was such a man.”

Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. encourages others to learn more about Senator Kennedy and the current health care reform issue for which he lived and fought every waking day of his public life. The members of Alpha also ask that those who believe pause to pray for him and his family during this period of mourning.
