BALTIMORE--On this Veterans’ Day, members of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity Inc. pause to pay tribute to the men and women of America’s armed forces.
Every day members of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines and Coast Guard put their lives on the line so that the rest of us can be safe and secure. They sacrifice for all Americans and sometimes pay the ultimate price--with their lives.
“We often on this day take time to remember those lost in the past. It is especially so that we also remember those who died in the recent shooting at Fort Hood, Texas,” said Herman “Skip” Mason Jr., (national) general president of the fraternity.
“Our hearts and prayers go out to all the family members, friends and fellow soldiers of those who perished in that unfortunate episode.”
While remembering those brave souls, Alpha members are also honoring the brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha who have taken up the cause of defending the nation, both in peace and in battle.
Alpha men have been serving the country since World War I and continue to serve gallantly today.
To ensure that the fraternity has a complete record of this honorable service, all Alpha men--active and inactive brothers--are asked to submit their military history including copies of photos, awards, orders and other items of note to
military@apa1906.net to be added to the Alpha Phi Alpha archives.
“America has been celebrating vets since 1919, and today, we stand again to say a simple thank you to each and every one of them. Their service is not in vain,” Mason said.
